A 24 kWh Leaf pack is 48 of these flat modules, each holding four pouch cells. They stack neatly and are the most common starting point for home-built storage — and because the Leaf has no active pack cooling, how much capacity is left depends on how hot a life the car had.
Build with a battery management system
Lithium cells pushed outside their voltage or temperature limits can fail violently. Whatever this goes into needs a BMS watching every cell group, and fusing sized to the module. Never mix chemistries in one string, and handle the module by its case. Before you build with lithium.
