What differs from model to model
- Pack voltage and module count vary with vehicle size — a Highlander Hybrid pack is a different animal from a Corolla Hybrid pack.
- Pack location varies: behind the rear seat, under the rear seat, in the trunk, or under the second-row floor depending on the model and generation.
- Cooling intake location varies, which changes what blocks airflow in real life. In a three-row SUV that's often cargo and car seats; in a sedan it's usually the trunk or rear parcel area.
- Newer models increasingly use lithium-ion rather than nickel-metal hydride, sometimes varying by trim within the same model year. That changes both the part and the appropriate service approach.
- Access labour varies enormously. Some packs come out in a straightforward afternoon; others need a lot of interior disassembly first.
