Tempe Apartment Hybrid Battery Service: $250 Mobile Fee
Mobile hybrid battery installs run about 30 minutes and need two parking spaces plus shade. What a Tempe apartment or HOA lot needs, and when it won't work.
Most mobile hybrid battery installs take about 30 minutes and need roughly two parking spaces' worth of room — one for your car, one for our van beside or behind it. Mobile service is a $250 add-on to the battery price, and in a Tempe apartment lot the main thing that decides whether it goes smoothly is shade and access, not square footage.
Here's what to line up before the appointment, and the handful of situations where we'll ask you to bring the car to the Phoenix shop instead.
How much space does the tech actually need?
Your car, plus a clear bay next to it or directly behind it. The pack comes out of the cabin or cargo area on most hybrids — behind the rear seat on a Prius, under or behind the rear seat on most Camry, Lexus and Honda applications — so what matters is being able to open the rear doors and the hatch or trunk fully and stand behind the car with a cart.
A standard striped apartment space works. A space wedged between two trucks with mirrors overhanging does not, because the doors won't swing wide enough to get the pack out at an angle.
If you can, move the car to an end space or a visitor row before we arrive. That one change solves most access problems.
Does it need to be covered parking?
Shade helps a great deal, and in Tempe from May through September it is the single biggest comfort and quality factor on a mobile job.
Asphalt surface temperature in a west-facing Tempe lot can sit far above the air temperature on a summer afternoon. Working hot is slower, and a hot pack is harder to get a clean resting-voltage reading from if we're also checking module balance on site. A carport, a covered row, or the shaded north side of the building in the morning all make the job better.
If you only have open asphalt, book the earliest slot you can get. Early morning in July is a different job than 3 p.m. in July.
That same heat is why your pack is in this position in the first place. Nickel-metal-hydride modules age faster when they spend years cycling at high ambient temperatures, which is why Phoenix-area packs commonly need attention earlier than the national mileage figures suggest. More on that on our hybrid battery replacement page.
Which parking situations work and which don't?
| Location | Works? | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| Open surface lot, end space | Yes | Book a morning slot in summer |
| Covered carport | Yes — ideal | Height is fine; carports clear a van easily |
| Visitor parking row | Usually | Time limits and whether a guest pass is required |
| Above-ground parking deck | Usually | Clearance height at the entrance |
| Underground / low-clearance garage | Often not | Posted clearance under about 7 ft is a problem for the service van |
| Gated community lot | Yes, with planning | Gate code or call-box name supplied in advance |
| Street parking on a busy road | No | We won't work a car in a live traffic lane |
| Dirt or steep sloped lot | No | Needs level, solid ground for jack and cart work |
If your garage has a posted clearance bar, read the number and tell us when you book. It is the most common reason a mobile appointment has to move.
Do I need to tell the HOA or property manager?
In most Tempe complexes, yes — and it takes one short email.
Some HOAs and apartment managers prohibit "vehicle repair" in common parking areas outright. Others allow it with notice. A few require a vendor to be on an approved list. You are the one with the relationship with the property, so the notification has to come from you.
What to tell them:
- It's a scheduled service appointment, roughly 30 minutes of work plus setup.
- No fluids are drained and no engine work is done.
- The old pack leaves with the technician the same day.
- The vehicle stays in your assigned or visitor space the whole time.
Then send us the gate code, the building and space number, and the name on the call box. Gates are the other common cause of a delayed start.
What should I have ready on the day?
- The car parked where you want it worked on, ideally shaded, with room on one side or behind.
- The key, and someone reachable by phone for the whole window.
- Anything you need out of the trunk and back seat already removed — groceries, car seats, tools. The cargo area has to be empty.
- Your gate code and space number already sent to us.
- Confirmation from the property if your complex requires it.
You don't need to supply power, water, or a work light.
What does it cost at an apartment versus the shop?
The pack price is the same either way; mobile adds $250 for coming to you.
| Pack | Price (battery alone) | Warranty |
|---|---|---|
| New aftermarket | $2,100 | 4 years |
| Rebuilt — Extended | $1,400 | 2 years |
| Rebuilt — Standard | $1,000 | 1 year |
Those are set prices for Prius and CT200h and include installation at our Phoenix shop; other models vary on install labour. The one optional extra is new nickel-plated bus bars with stainless nuts for $99. Full details are on the pricing page, and warranty terms — labour included for the full term when we did the install, no mileage limit, not prorated — are on the warranty page.
When should I just bring it to the shop?
Bring it in if your only parking is an underground garage with low clearance, if your HOA says no, if the lot is dirt or steeply sloped, or if monsoon weather is rolling through. A shop appointment also makes sense when the fault isn't clearly the pack — if you're chasing a check engine light with codes that could point at the inverter, the cooling circuit or the 12V system, a bench and a lift help.
Not sure which code you have? The warning light index sorts the common Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Ford hybrid codes by what they actually mean.
We cover Tempe and the rest of the Phoenix metro, and ship packs free nationwide.
