P1B96 does not always mean the pack
P1B96 reports high-voltage battery degradation, but a high-voltage battery voltage sensor circuit fault can also set it. Kia issued a bulletin for the 2011–2014 Optima Hybrid — the same corporate hybrid system — grouping P1B70, P1B74 and P1B96 together as a sensing circuit fault. Rule out the sensing circuit and the battery management software before authorising a lithium pack.
