Codes that show up on the Chevrolet Volt
If a scanner has given you a code, start here. None of them is an instruction to buy a battery — each page says what the code means, what else causes it, and what a proper diagnosis checks.
- P1B70P1B70 is a manufacturer-specific code, and the manufacturers did not agree. On Hyundai and Kia hybrids it is a high-voltage battery imbalance code and appears in a Kia bulletin alongside P1B74 and P1B96 as a sensor circuit fault. On GM products it points at a specific cell circuit reading low. Reading a generic code list without checking which make it came from is how this one gets misdiagnosed, so the first question here is what you drive.
- P0BBDP0BBD reports that the difference in voltage between modules in the high-voltage pack has gone past what the system tolerates. It is GM's imbalance code on the two-mode trucks and SUVs. Imbalance is not the same thing as a dead pack: it can come from genuine module wear, but it can equally come from a loose or corroded connection making one module look far worse than it is. Both are common on vehicles of this age.

Don't crush a hybrid with the battery still in it
A crusher or shredder is the worst place a high-voltage battery can end up. It can start a fire deep in a scrap pile, it is not scrap metal under EPA's rules, and the pack is worth more out of the car than in it.
Not sure what your hybrid needs? We'll work it out with you.
We come to you, test the pack, the 12V and the cooling, and you get a written quote before anything is decided. No obligation.
