- P1B96P1B96 is the Hyundai and Kia code for high-voltage battery performance degradation. Before treating it as a verdict, note that Kia issued a service bulletin covering the 2011–2014 Optima Hybrid that groups P1B70, P1B74 and P1B96 together as a high-voltage battery sensor circuit fault — meaning the sensing circuit, not the cells, can set this code. On a lithium pack that distinction is worth several thousand dollars, so the bulletin gets checked first.
- P1B74P1B74 names the high-voltage battery voltage sensor circuit. A hybrid pack is only as trustworthy as the wiring that measures it, and when that circuit reports something implausible the battery management system stores a code. Kia's bulletin for the 2011–2014 Optima Hybrid lists P1B70, P1B74 and P1B96 together under a sensor circuit fault, which is the clearest statement available that these codes do not automatically mean the cells have failed.
- P1B70P1B70 is a manufacturer-specific code, and the manufacturers did not agree. On Hyundai and Kia hybrids it is a high-voltage battery imbalance code and appears in a Kia bulletin alongside P1B74 and P1B96 as a sensor circuit fault. On GM products it points at a specific cell circuit reading low. Reading a generic code list without checking which make it came from is how this one gets misdiagnosed, so the first question here is what you drive.
