Codes that show up on the Honda Civic Hybrid
If a scanner has given you a code, start here. None of them is an instruction to buy a battery — each page says what the code means, what else causes it, and what a proper diagnosis checks.
- P1570Honda's IMA pack is split into modules, and the battery computer watches each one. P1570 is set when individual modules report voltages outside the range the system expects — usually a spread between the strongest and weakest modules rather than one obviously dead cell. It is a pack-condition code, not a parts order. Honda stores a sub-code alongside it that narrows which measurement tripped, and reading that sub-code is the difference between a diagnosis and a guess.
- P1446A hybrid pack only works when its modules stay close together in voltage. P1446 is set when the deviation between them exceeds what the battery computer will accept. It is the imbalance code rather than the wear code — the pack can still have reasonable total capacity while individual modules pull in different directions. Imbalance and deterioration usually arrive together on an older IMA pack, which is why P1446 and P1570 are so often stored side by side.
- P1449P1449 is unusual: Honda's own 2003–2004 service information lists it as Battery Module Overheating, Battery Cell Overheating, or Battery Module Deterioration — three faults under one number. That matters because they do not lead to the same repair. Overheating points at cooling and airflow; deterioration points at the pack itself. Anyone who tells you P1449 definitively means your IMA battery is finished is skipping two of the three published definitions. The sub-code and the measurements separate them.
- P1575P1575 is a Honda-specific code covering the Motor Power Inverter Module — the electronics that convert the pack's DC into the AC the motor uses. It is set when the module reports a voltage it does not expect. This matters commercially: it is not a battery code, and a car carrying P1575 alone does not need a pack. It often appears alongside genuine battery codes on an old car, which is exactly when it gets mistaken for one.
- P0A7DP0A7D reports that the pack's state of charge has fallen under the threshold the control system needs. The important part is what it does not say: it does not say the pack is worn out. A healthy pack on a car that sat for two months sets this code, and so does a pack genuinely at the end of its life. The difference is whether it recovers once the car is driven and charged normally again.
